SUMMARY:Scotts Valley Wellness Walk
DESCRIPTION:A community event\, highlighting togetherness and physical and emotional well-being\, and supporting the SVHS Wellness Center. \nAt Scotts Valley High School\, we believe learning begins with feeling safe\, supported\, and well. Students who are anxious\, unhappy\, or struggling cannot fully engage in the classroom. Our Wellness Center is an invaluable resource that provides emotional support\, mental health resources\, and a sense of belonging for our students. \nThat’s why we are hosting a community-wide Wellness Walk to raise funds to keep our amazing Wellness Center available for all who need it. \nThis walk is about flipping the script. Wellness is not a luxury or an add-on; it is a basic and foundational need. By walking together\, we are investing in a school community where every student has access to the care\, connection\, and support they need before academic success can truly follow. \nEvery step helps build a healthier\, stronger future for our students. \nPlease note: While we love our four-legged friends and our wheels\, for the safety of others\, please no dogs or bikes/skateboards/rollerblades at this event. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome. Thank you!

SUMMARY:Moonlight and Mirrors: Pianist Gwendolyn Mok
DESCRIPTION:French composers Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel\, both creating in the Impressionist style\, were often viewed as competitors. Critics regarded Ravel as a lesser imitator of the older Debussy. But is that true?\nOn Sunday\, March 15\, piano virtuoso Dr. Gwendolyn Mok will perform selected compositions side-by-side\, each on a similar topic. This will allow you to make your own judgments. How are the composers similar? How are they different? Does Ravel really try to imitate Debussy\, or does he have his own distinct style?\nThe Moonlight and Mirrors recital will feature Debussy’s Moonlight Sonata and Ravel’s Miroirs\, among other pieces. Dr. Mok will use the piano and visual aids to help you understand and appreciate how the two composers differed and how they were similar even while composing in the same Impressionist style.\nOur Musician Series performances are held in a smaller\, more intimate venue\, bringing the musicians up close with the audience. Tickets for this season’s recitals have sold out quickly\, leaving some people disappointed. An early purchase is encouraged!\nCall Cabrillo Box Office at 831-479-6154 or visit https://tinyurl.com/moonlightandmirrors.

SUMMARY:Empty Nest and All the Rest: A one-man comedy show by Clay Hausmann
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hilarious and memorable evening on Friday\, March 13th. Scotts Valley High School Parent Club is proud to bring this entertaining one-man comedy show featuring Clay Hausmann sharing his experiences as an empty nester. Clay has performed his unique brand of comedy\, insight and storytelling to audiences of as many as 1000. Doors open at 7pm\, and the opening performance by Scotts Valley High School’s production of Little Shop of Horrors begins the night at 7:40pm. Our featured performer\, Clay Hausmann\, will take the stage at 8 p.m. Refreshments available starting at 7 pm. This event is a fundraiser for Scotts Valley High School Parent Club. \nThis hilarious one-man comedy show was born one August afternoon when 22 years of parenting came to a sudden and thankless end. These same children…the ones who thought pushing a garbage can 100 feet to the curb  qualified as “doing chores”…the ones who considered your leftover pizza “available for anyone\,” but their party size bag of pita chips (that YOU paid for) not to be touched…just up and left for their $80\,000/year college. Thank god you hung onto the streaming service passcodes\, otherwise you might never hear from them. Now it’s just you and your wife. The kids have been gone for a month and you’re out of topics.” Does she really want to know if I think she looks good in that pair of overalls?” Welcome to Empty Nest and All the Rest. “That was the most impressive thing I’ve seen in a long time. It was so polished\, so funny\, and so thoughtfully composed. I’ve watched comedians work over the years and not get even close to where Clay was last night.” “I am totally drop-jawed. The stories. The timing and call backs. Bravo! Amazing performance. Honestly.” Clay has performed his unique brand of comedy\, insight and storytelling to audiences of as many as 1000. He has appeared on KGO-TV\, ABC Radio\, and in Fast Company. He is the author of four screenplays and was a finalist for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab in 2011. And he is now officially an empty nester. Concessions including wine\, beer and snacks available at the location. Proceeds to benefit the SVHS Parent Club. \n

SUMMARY:Salomè
DESCRIPTION:The opera is based on the Oscar Wilde play of the same name that scandalized Victorian England. The story is contemporary with Jesus Christ’s life\, during the Roman conquest and occupation of the Levant. Although the grit and violence components are the most tantalizing\, Salome is actually a work of great beauty and tremendous dramatic power.  Salome’s rejection of her stepfather’s sexual advances\, her infatuation with the young and handsome John the Baptist\, who rejects her\, and her choice to have him beheaded so that she can own his head and kiss his lips\, are steps in a story that develops inexorably. Strauss’ fantastical\, highly romantic and atmospheric score makes every step along the way seem inevitable. Presented fully staged\, with orchestra\, sets\, projections\, period costumes and a top-notch cast at a venue that affords great immediacy and guarantees a powerful experience.
