Scotts Valley Market Opens May 5th w/ the Blueberry Bonanza
The Scotts Valley Market is open seasonally May through November. This year the Market opens on May 5th with a special blueberry celebration. Let’s kick off the season with some woo hoos and yeehaws! Special guests Mountain Feed and Farm Supply head up a healthful blueberry soda workshop. The market crew passes out FREE blueberry shortcake. The Scotts Valley Public Library offers an at-market story time focused on farmy folktales. Get into some face painting, art making and grocery shopping – then come back every week into November because you want to support your local growers.
At the Scotts Valley Market over 25 growers and food artisans come out to set up each Saturday, 9am to 1pm. They offer a great mix of fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised eggs and meats and local and sustainably caught seafood from Old House Farm, Route 1 Farms, Stone Meal Farm, Serendipity Farm, Live Earth Farm, Stackhouse Farm, Ken’s Top Notch Produce, Violini Asparagus, Madrone Coast, Triple Delight Blueberries, Rodoni Farm and H & H Fresh Fish. And bringing baked, sauteed and whipped together wonderfulness – Companion Bakeshop, Beckman’s Bakery, Red Sea East African food, Hidden Fortress Coffee Roasters and Ashby Confections chocolate to name a handful.
The Market
Started in 2009 with the City of Scotts Valley, the market represents farmers and specialty food purveyors along with cook-to-order food. This local market is the place for the the Scotts Valley community to get their fill of fresh, healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables. During the summer months, SCCFM music series showcases local music and there is a shaded cafe seating area, along with space for the young ones to hang out and play. The market provides unlimited free parking and is located next to Sky Park and is across the from the new Scotts Valley library.
Kids Zone!
The market provides parents a centrally located shaded spot in the market that their kids can hang out, draw, play with toys, read and work on their best socialization skills with other young ones.
Pop-Up Breakfast Event: June 9th in Scotts Valley
We at the Santa Cruz Community Farmers’ Markets miss no opportunity to celebrate around good food. Joining in the fun 2013-2017, we have hosted a series of pop-up, farm-to-table breakfast events at the Scott’s Valley and Westside FM each year. In the space of the markets, guests gather to sit down at a long table among friends and enjoy a fresh, multi-course meal prepared on-site. At each event admired local chefs serve up sensational mixes of simple cuisine made with seasonal ingredients from the very farms that sell at the market. Local youth leaders from food justice organization FoodWhat?! serve the fair while farmers mingle at the tables. Each event offers its own pleasing qualities: a wood-fired stove, seasonal blooms, fine charcutery. With each event we learn more about how to make this moment magical, connecting farmers, chefs, our local landscape and you. The 2018 schedule is still in the works – details will be announced this spring.
