The 4th Annual Alfred Hitchcock Festival – 100 Years of Hitchcock

6:45      Welcome, and City Proclamation by Scotts Valley Mayor Donna Lind.

7:00      Panel featuring Tere Carrubba, granddaughter of Alfred Hitchcock, local historian Jay Topping and UCSC Professors Shelley Stamp and Logan Walker, lecturers of Film & Digital Media, will be discussing with Tere her experiences growing up with her famous grandfather.

8:00      30-minute intermission. Snacks and Drinks will be available in the lobby.

8:30      Kylan DeGhetaldi, pianist, singer and composer specializing in ragtime and other early jazz genres, will introduce Hitchcock’s first film, THE PLEASURE GARDEN. It has been 100 years since the release of Hitchcock’s first theatrical film, co-directed with his wife, Alma Reville, when he was just 25 years old.

1:00      Rich Karat, who has traveled extensively throughout the world to document the many film locations of Hitchcock’s movies, will share his photos of various locations and discuss their importance. He will introduce Hitchcock’s final film, FAMILY PLOT.

Tony Lee Moral, British filmmaker and author specializes in film history, especially the work of Alfred Hitchcock. He is the author of Hitchcock and the Making of Marnie, The Making of Hitchcock’s The Birds, The Young Alfred Hitchcock’s Moviemaking Master Class, and Alfred Hitchcock Storyboards. He will also introduce the film, North by Northwest

For the first time in our festival’s history, local educator and film expert, Amy Shiovitz will present a series of 5-minute films that were created by local students and film makers. Participants have had just 48 hours to create a short film using the directorial techniques of the great Alfred Hitchcock

1:00      Drawing for the raffle, announce winners of Film contest Brief intermission

1:30      The film ROPE will be shown. Starring James Stewart, John Dall and Farley Granger, this is the first of Hitchcock’s Technicolor films and is notable for taking place in real time and being edited to appear as four long shots through the use of stitched-together long takes.
